Titobowl: A Unique Blend of Design and Functionality

Carlos Jimenez Perez & Pilar Balsalobre's Award-Winning Design Inspired by Nature

Titobowl, a unique ceramic vessel designed by Carlos Jimenez Perez & Pilar Balsalobre, is an innovative blend of design and functionality. Inspired by the anatomy of an olive, this snack bowl is a testament to the designers' creativity and attention to detail.

The design of Titobowl is rooted in the simplicity and logic of nature. Its form, mirroring the shape of an olive, is not only aesthetically pleasing but also practical. The bowl is designed for tasting different varieties and seasonings of olives, with a special compartment made of olive wood for discarding pits. The top cap of the container can be turned into a toothpick holder, making it versatile for tasting pitted olives and other snacks.

Titobowl is part of the "NATURA IMITATIS" line of functional eco-designs. The designers have combined stoneware and hand-turned olive wood to create a harmonious blend of cold and warm materials. Each piece is painstakingly handcrafted, and available in two colors, green and black. The packaging, inspired by a can of olives, is made entirely of recycled cardboard and paper, making it a perfect example of eco-packaging.

The designers faced the challenge of making the olive, a popular appetizer in Mediterranean countries, appealing to a global audience. They overcame this by creating a design that is simple, evocative, and elegant, capable of sparking interest in this unique appetizer beyond olive-producing countries.

The project, which started in January 2014 in Madrid, Spain, saw its first prototypes completed in December 2014. Production began in January 2015 in various parts of Spain, and the design was first presented to the public at the Central Market Design, Disseny HUB in Barcelona, Spain, in December 2014.

The design of Titobowl is a result of extensive research on the properties, shapes, and textures of simple and universal vegetable forms. The designers also studied different varieties of olive wood to determine the most suitable type for the piece. The result is a product that is not only functional but also has great aesthetic and emotional appeal.

Titobowl's unique design and functionality have not gone unnoticed in the design world. It was awarded the Golden A' Bakeware, Tableware, Drinkware, and Cookware Design Award in 2015, a prestigious accolade granted to outstanding and trendsetting creations.
